Hinterzarten is located on the heights of the Black Forest, but only 25 km east of Freiburg, the region's biggest city.

The nice village attracts many tourists, most of them go in for sports. In the winter, visitors can practice cross-country and alpine skiing. During the summer hiking is the favoured leisure activity.

All over Germany Hinterzarten is known for it's ski jumping hills. Famous nordic sportsmen, such as Georg Thoma, Dieter Thoma and Wolfgang Steiert were born here. Also Sven Hannawald lived in Hinterzarten for some years.

About the hill:

Ski jumping has a rich history in Hinterzarten. Already in 1923 the first jumping hill was built there, the so called "Kirchwaldschanze", that was abandoned in 1973. The "Adlerschanze" (Hill of the Eagles) was built in 1924, as a K60. Over the years the hill became old, and at the end of the 1970s it was not suitable for jumping anymore. So in 1980 the new K90 plastic hill was built. Since 1982 international summer competitions are held on the hill annually. In 1998/99 the hill was converted into a modern K95. In the years 2004 to 2005 the three smaller hills, K70, K30 and K15, were built next to the K95.

The first Ladies' competition was held during the Junior World Championships 2010. In 2011 a Ladies CoC was held and in 2012 Hinterzarten is one of the venues of the first Ladies World Cup season.
